“Dragon Ball: Daima,” is the 5th anime installment of the Dragon Ball franchise & it’s scheduled for Fall, 2024. The series is rumored to be composed of 20 episodes, but there has been no official announcement in regards to it.
Overview of DB Daima
The announcement was made during the Dragon Ball Special Panel at New York Comic Con 2023. The series introduces a unique twist as Goku and his friends fall victim to a conspiracy, transforming them into miniature versions of themselves. To undo this mysterious enchantment, they embark on a grand adventure in a new and unknown world.
Akira Toriyama’s Involvement
In a personal message, Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, shared insights into “Dragon Ball Daima“. Toriyama mentioned that “Daima” is a term he created, signifying “Evil” in English. The kanji for Daima (大魔) translates to “great” and “demon/magic.” Toriyama, deeply involved in the project, expressed enthusiasm for this unique storyline. He revealed that Goku, in his diminutive form, will wield the Nyoibo (Power Pole) in battles, bringing back a long-lost element to the series.
Production Details
Akira Toriyama oversees the story, settings, and many of the designs, promising a narrative that delves into the mysteries of the Dragon Ball world. Notably, “Dragon Ball: Daima” will feature a completely original story, as confirmed by Akio Iyoku.
Staff & Cast
The project involves series directors Yoshitaka Yashima and Aya Komaki, with Akira Toriyama handling the story. Character designs are by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, and the screenplay is written by Yuuko Kakihara. Masako Nozawa takes on the role of Goku, bringing her distinctive voice to the iconic character.
